Crafter. Painter. Strategic communicator. You could say Kate Robinson has a bit of creative energy bubbling inside of her. Well, actually it’s a lot of creativity, and that’s why we’re excited to welcome her as our summer strategic communication intern at Central Exchange. Get to know Kate.

Before Central Exchange

Kate is a student at KU, entering her senior year this fall as a journalism/strategic communication major. She previously interned with Nellie Sparkman Events, where she honed her strategic communication and event planning chops. During the school year, she also works at the J-school on campus.

Central Exchange connection

“I’m looking forward to trying new things and being creative,” says Kate. “I love to think outside the box and come up with new ideas.”

At CX, Kate will be helping execute social media content, campaigns, writing and so much more.

Meaningful Women

The women in Kate’s family have passed down a legacy of excellence and kindness to her. “I really look up to my mom and grandma.” Kate grew up with a model of hard work ethic and care in her mother. As for her creativity, that comes from her grandma. “I used to go to my grandma’s house every day in the summer and do crafts and projects. She is the kindest person I’ve ever met!”

Kate’s Family

Kate grew up in Wichita with Keith, her dad, Denice, her mom, and Alec, her younger brother who also attends KU. She also has a very large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins that live in town. Her fur babies include Gordon and Chester, two adorable cats adopted from the humane society.

Outside of CX, Where you’ll find Kate

When she’s not working and studying, you can find Kate at KU Basketball games cheering on the Jayhawks. She fully embraces life in Lawrence, loving to spend time in the downtown area visiting restaurants with friends and sorority sisters. And, she loves a good girls night in!

Hidden Talents

Arts and crafts are Kate’s passion. She even launched an Etsy shop at one point to share her crafts with the world. A recent quarantine addition to her staples of canvas painting, calligraphy and crafts? Embroidery and knitting!

A community she loves

One of Kate’s favorite, goosebumpy-moments is singing the alma mater at KU basketball games. “I just love the KU community! I love that we share similar ideas and attitude. I love all the history and traditions with this shared experience.”

On Women in Leadership

“It’s really important to have a community of women who support each other, encourage each other, and have each others’ backs,” she says. “I love that CX has that sense of community in the professional world. We empower and support women with the resources to succeed in the workplace.”

Thank you, Kate, for being a wonderful part of Team CX. We look forward to all the ways you advance the mission during your time here!
