Central Exchange is excited to welcome Mimsy Tallent as our new Director of Marketing + Communications. Mimsy has nearly two decades of experience in marketing and events in the KC metro area. “It’s important for women to have a seat at the table,” she says. “Our voices need to be heard.” Meet Mimsy.

Her career path

After achieving her degree in journalism with an emphasis in advertising from KU, Mimsy started her career at the Kansas City Star. There, she worked in the ad department as a graphic designer. “I had the night shift!” she laughs. “As a 23-year-old, working 4:30 pm to 1:00 am wasn’t ideal. However it taught me a lot about dedication to my career and gave me skills I may not have learned otherwise. In the end it helped me advance to my first management role (and a daytime position) within two years.”

Following the journalism industry decline, Mimsy joined First National Bank as a marketing specialist and worked her way up to manager of her department. She served at the Culinary Center of Kansas City focusing on events management before her most recent role as Director of Marketing and Events at the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City.

Her CX connection

Mimsy worked in the same building as the former CX South location during her time at First National Bank. “I was on the seventh floor, and you could smell the lunches!”

She experienced the power of CX programming and her first Midwest Leadership Summit (Leadership Lyceum at that time) during those years. When she discovered the opportunity to work at CX, she knew she had the skills and passion for the role.

Outside work, where will you find Mimsy

Like many of us during the pandemic, Mimsy has been spending time at home. She’s wrapping a yearlong home renovation and looking forward to enjoying her home back in order.

Mimsy’s also a foodie. You’ll find her on the patio at Rye or out discovering new restaurants in Kansas City. But her favorite thing in the world is spending quality time with her friends and family.

She and her husband Jeff are dedicated to their infamous three-to-five mile “walk and talks” at Shawnee Mission Park and around Kansas City, which they started eight years ago when they began dating. “It gives us the opportunity to stretch our legs, get a little exercise and talk about life,” she says. “ We love it so much that Jeff proposed to me on one of the bridges on our favorite trail at SM Park almost to the day six years ago!”

Her family

Mimsy and Jeff are very close with their extended family in and out of town — including their adorable nieces and nephew.

Her passion for women in leadership

“As a woman starting my career in the early 2000s, there weren’t many women in leadership,” she says. “And today, there are still too few women.”

Mimsy believes in the mission of CX to cultivate women’s careers and leadership paths. “Women used to be told that we had to choose — career or family. Now, there are resources like CX out there. We have to help younger generations learn and grow.”

Mimsy, we’re grateful you’ve joined Team CX and our community. We look forward to all the ways you help our mission thrive!
