KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Central Exchange has selected two honorary co-chairs and the keynote for its 6th Annual STEMMy Awards on Sept. 19 at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland. Karen Hornig, CEO of National Insurance Producer Registry, and Kara Lowe, COO of KC Tech Council will lead the effort to celebrate Kansas City’s women in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math and medicine). Mitzi Cardenas, Executive Chief Administrative Officer, will deliver the luncheon keynote.

Hornig, Lowe and Cardenas are all the top-ranking female executives at their respective organizations.

“At a time when women make up only 24 percent of the workforce in STEMM fields, we are delighted to have trailblazing women like Karen, Kara and Mitzi play a key role in this event,” Courtney Thomas, President & CEO of Central Exchange, shares. “Their presence at our event and their strong leadership in our community raises awareness, interest and highlights the potential for women in STEMM fields around the region.”

Award categories include Groundbreaking Leadership, Rising Trendsetter, Enterprising Innovator, WiSTEMM Educator, Student Achiever, WiSTEMM Champion and Corporate Hero. The official award presentations will take place during the Sept. 19 event.

“These awards give women the opportunity to do something we aren’t always systemically  encouraged to do — pause to acknowledge our achievements and celebrate one another,” Lowe says.
